Biosca

The municipality of Biosca is located in the south of Solsonès, on the right bank of the Llobregós River. Until 2023, the municipality of Biosca belonged to the region of La Segarra; now it belongs to the region of Solsonès and borders the region of La Segarra. The municipality covers an area of 66.21 km² with 185 inhabitants (2023 census).

The northern part of the municipality is crossed by a large ravine formed by the Sanaüja stream, which passes north of the Lloberola castle.

The main population centers of the municipality are the villages of Biosca, the municipal capital, and Lloberola.

In the gypsum and marl soils near the Llobregós or its basin, in the southernmost part of the municipality, there are dryland crops dominated by cereals, especially barley, wheat, and rapeseed; until a few years ago, there were still vineyards and olive trees. The agriculture of Biosca is complemented by livestock farming, especially pigs, poultry, and sheep.

Regarding history, the place of Biosca is documented in the year 1031. In the documentation of the 12th century, the lineage of the Biosca appears, who probably held the castellan title of the castle.
